Living in Lake Chapala

Updated: Apr 17, 2022

Heart of Ajijic banner in Ajijic Centro, Lake Chapala

You can retire anywhere in the world right? Maybe even retire right in your home town? So why even contemplate a retirement move to Lake Chapala, Mexico? Great question!

Answer = Because there is so much that the Lake Chapala area has to offer and all at half or less the cost (see my cost of living blog for 2017) and all within close and easy proximity to your home in the U.S. or Canada should you wish to or need to return.

Read on to find out what living in Lake Chapala has to offer.

Great Restaurants - You may never cook again!. There is so much to choose from here and all at great prices so why even fire up the stove? In fact, often times it is cheaper (and certainly far easier) to go out then to gather all the ingredients and do it yourself, so relax, you deserve a break today and the next day....and the next!

Home Services – Gardeners, maids, cooks, concierge services, home nursing care, home doctors visits, Spanish instructors (at your home), personal trainers ( at your home), massage therapists (at your home), caterers, home delivery food services, to list only a few.

Other Services - There are people to help you buy your car in Guadalajara, go shopping for you, walk your dogs for you, pick up your dogs and take them to doggie day care for the day, translate for you, drive for you, drive north of the border for you, pay your bills for you, pay your car tax, your house tax, assist you in getting your Mexican Drivers License, help you get your immigration visa, help you get your fishing license, and more all at very low cost.

Why are all these services available in this little town in Mexico? Well, Ajijic has been an expat community for over 70+ years now and the town has gradually changed to accommodate and cater to foreigners. This has been a win-win situation for locals and expats alike.

Fun & Entertainment – So much going on every day of the week, Dances, concerts, plays, choirs, recitals, sports, games, nature and the great outdoors, volunteer organizations, clubs, charities, classes of all types (language, cooking, art, meditation, spiritual, sewing, etc). It's hard to believe that there is so much packed into one tiny little area.

Old Age Homes – When the time finally comes, there are excellent and inexpensive Care Facilities available at half or less the cost of north of the border. Heck, when it comes right down to it, even dying is a lot cheaper than up north. From ambulances to hearses, doctors to hospitals, to cremation or burial services, it all costs you less which means you can give more to yourself during the good years and still leave a nest egg to the ones you love and left behind.

Sorry to end on such a morbid topic but there is no denying that you can live better then ever before at less cost than where you reside now.

So why contemplate a retirement move to Lake Chapala? Great question! But now you know!

Thanks for reading!

Footnote: Here at RetireInLakeChapala.net, we know what you are going through. Both myself and my “man” came here separately at 47 years of age (we met here in Beautiful Lake Chapala) and had to discover ourselves the many things we needed to know about living in Mexico. We are here for you!

We know what it is like to pay high taxes in Canada. To suffer 8-10 months a year in weather that is (generally) way to cold and then (briefly) way to hot!

So interact with us on our Facebook Page. Ask questions. Get in Contact!

It is our hope that we can make your expat transition to the “living your best life” that much easier.

Once you discover Lake Chapala, I know you will never go back.

See you soon!
