Ajijic malecon, Ajijic, Mexico

Why all the hoopla about retirement in Lake Chapala? Why would you even consider moving to another country? For many it is an economic necessity and for others facing a mid-life crisis or change in a family relationship, it is an opportunity to begin a new and exciting life abroad and reinvent yourself all over again; even spark new love in an existing relationship or start a brand new one.

In this blog we'll take a look at the top 5 reasons why you might consider moving to Lake Chapala, Mexico.

Low Cost of Living

Top of the list is the low cost of living. Although rents and housing prices have risen during the past 3 years, you'll still find that the cost of living is ½ or less than what you would be spending in the States or Canada. Most everything except some imported goods are drastically cheaper. Large Established Expat Community

Rivaling the number 1 spot is the Large Established Expat Community. This makes expatriating to Lake Chapala super easy with a readily available built in knowledge base. There are also many services and support groups to help you with anything you might need.

Incredible Climate!

Rated the second best climate in the world. You will not believe the consistent and comfortable climate that awaits you. With the moderating effect of Mexico's largest lake, it's location near the equator and the 5000 foot elevation, it truly is one of the best spots in the world to live.

Inexpensive and Readily Accessible Healthcare

Inexpensive compared to the United States and Readily Accessible for Canadians who often need to wait months to years for service. There are an abundance of excellent facilities and American trained doctors both in Lake Chapala and in nearby Guadalajara. We have had many friends and even family members who have used the Heath Care and have been very pleased with the service and quality. From hip and knee replacements to back, stomach, hernia surgery and cancer treatments, all of the experiences that we have encountered have been positive.

You'll find expat healthcare plans affordable if you chose that route or like my partner you may decide to self insure.

Easy Access to the U.S. and Canada

Want to expat to another country but don't want to leave you family behind? Access to the U.S. And Canada is ridiculously easy. In a large part this is due to the overwhelming numbers of Mexican citizens who travel back and forth for family or business reasons and airlines have stepped up to the plate with direct flights from Guadalajara to all major U.S. Airports. Canadians have less direct flights available to them but one can opt for a single stop in a U.S. city or Mexico City which has more direct flights to Canadian centers. So don't give it a second thought. Flights are reasonably priced and frequent meaning you'll never be cut off from your loved ones. Added bonus is you are only ½ hour from the the Guadalajara International Airport!

Conclusion

Mexico is a very large country and there are many spots to expatriate to but these top 5 reasons sets Lake Chapala apart. There is no other place in Mexico that offers all of the above so if these are your top 5 reasons to move to Mexico then let me be the first to Welcome you Home!
