Old and New Friends in Ajijic

Updated: Apr 16, 2022

Its that time of year again! Once again we are nearing November and soon there will be an influx of snowbirds who spend 3-6 months over the winter in beautiful Lake Chapala. This is an exciting time of year, as people who have expatriated here for good get to see and catch up with the many friends who have not yet made the full commitment to living here full time. It's amazing when living in Lake Chapala how many friends and acquaintances you accumulate. Today was another wonderfully sunny and warm day in late October (up to 28 degrees Celcius - 82 F) and it was a pleasure to have a meeting poolside with clients in the morning and then driving through beautiful retirement communities filled with overflowing bougainvillea trees. We drove though La Reserva, Laguna Vista, Los Sabinos, Puerto Arroyo and Alto Arroyo. All lovely gated communities.

While having lunch today, a good friend came by to say hello. He is a snowbird who just arrived and it is always a pleasure to see people back here Lakeside enjoying their time with friends. Although the streets can be busier in the winter months then in the summer months, I would never trade emptier streets if it meant I didn't get a chance to renew old acquaintances and visit with dear friends.

One of the couples today (who are staying at Birds of Paradise) mentioned how much they love all the social activities in that community. Regular bridge and card games, 3:00 pm margarita time, etc. After moving down here you will wonder how you ever found time for work!

Some dear friends whom we went for dinner with last night mentioned how nice it was that everyone is there to help you with advice, a car ride, picking something up, etc. and how easy it was to strike up conversations on the street. Everyone here in Ajijic are friendly and outgoing. All enjoying their best retirement life or winter holiday!

Oh, by the way, last nights dinner in a fancy restaurant cost only 420 pesos with tip. We had 2 delicious half rack rib dinners, 2 Corona beer, and a small caesar salad ($27 Cdn - $20 US)

So here's a tip of the glass to both new and old friends.

For more information on the communities Birds of Paradise, La Rerserva, Laguna Vista, Los Sabinos, Puerto Arroyo or Alto Arroyo, drop me an email though my contact' box and I would be happy to answer all your questions.

Whether you are a snowbird, snowbird wannabe, local,,or brand new to the area, thanks for reading and I hope to meet you soon.
