Ajijic, and the surrounding Lakeside area of Lake Chapala is a gardener's delight. Year 'round perfect temperatures and plenty of sunshine keep the bougainvillea and roses blooming. What a paradise for the avid gardener! Plenty of like-minded individuals here share your passion with as well.

One of the premier events is the the Garden Clubs annual show at the Racquet Club in San Juan Cosala. Every December this event draws a couple hundred people to view some of the incredible displays created by the many talented gardeners. These creative designs could look like horses, birds or sculptures and are made entirely out of flowers and the natural fauna.

The Lake Chapala Society often has special events on educating the local gardener as well. For instance, they are running 2 terrific courses on Lakeside gardening. Starting Jan 10 is Introduction to Lakeside Gardening and on Jan 11 is Advanced Lakeside Gardening. Topics range from: gardening in sun to shade, cactus gardens, communicating with your gardener in Spanish, testing soil conditions, propagation from seed and pest and disease management. Both courses are being offered for only 500 Pesos for 8 classes. A lot of information at a great value. But that's what we come to expect here at Lakeside.
